2008 Mason Dixon Champs!! |
4/28/09 The Highlight of the FSDB Sports Season.
I think the "Top Story" for 2007-2008 and Highlight of the year was Rick Roberts and the Varsity Dragons bringing home back to back winning seasons and an appearance in the championship game during the 56th annual Mason Dixon hosted here at FSDB.
This year I have to say hands down goes to Coaches Tiffany Kawohl and Eric LeFors and the Lady Dragons for "bringing home" the Top Honors at the 21st annual Mason Dixon Volleyball Tournament. The Trophy didn't go far! Just from the Gym Floor to the Trophy case as the Lady Dragons DOMINATED the court. When I say Dominated, I mean they absolutely controlled the entire weekend on the court. Here's how the weekend broke down.........
The Lady Dragons were seeded #2 going into pool play for tournament seeding. They faced Mississippi first and beat them (25-14, 25-4), Next they faced Alabama and defeated them (25-18, 25-19), Next up, South Carolina. The Lady Dragons won the first game of the match (25-7), in the second game of the match the Lady Dragons experienced their ONLY loss of the Tournament! (16-25), however the Lady Dragons defeated South Carolina (15-7) in the 3rd game and never looked back from there!!! They faced North Carolina for the final game of pool play and defeated them (25-13, 25-8). This placed the Lady Dragons in the #1 Seed for the Tournament.
Mississippi was first up during tournament play and the Lady Dragons sent them to the locker room beating them (25-6, 25-13). Louisiana fell (25-13, 25-16), Eastern North Carolina found out quickly that the Lady Dragons were on FIRE!! and they left a little "crispy" (25-13, 25-8). It came down to the Alabama Lady Silent Warriors vs. Florida Lady Dragons in the Final Championship Game... The Lady Dragons Cranked up the Heat and scorched Alabama (25-8, 25-14).
Did you know that the Lady Dragons have won the Mason Dixon Tournament 3 out of the last 4 years??!!
Two Lady Dragons were named to the "All Tournament Team", Lakeisha M.r, and Valerie B.; Lakeisha was also named Tournament MVP!!!
What an exciting weekend! It was definately worth watching!! Better than a Jaguar's game anyday!! That's just my $.02, but if you weren't here to see it, you missed out on seeing something great.
